Wattlesford Collector Cards
a fun and silly look at our flocks
The Wattlesford Collector Cards are my extremely silly (and hopefully humorous) Pokémon-style tribute to everyone who lives in the little village we call Wattlesford. Every resident – yes, even the dog – will get their own card, tailored to their unique personality.
I’m designing these cards as a fun little brain break when I start feeling overwhelmed with developing the Feathered Fundamentals (chicken keeping for beginners) workshop that I’ll be offering in the spring of 2026. I work best when I have multiple projects to bounce back and forth between – if you haven’t already figured that out from hanging around here.
On Wednesdays (until I run out of cards to share), I’ll reveal two at a time on my Facebook and Instagram pages for your amusement, along with a short biography for each featured resident. I’m calling it “Wattlesford Wednesday” – just because I can. Might as well fully commit to the silliness!
To save you from scrolling through social media forever, I’ll also update this blog post each week with the newest cards. That way, you’ll be able to view them all in one place right here.
Eventually, a few of these cards may sneak into egg cartons as originally planned but, mostly, I think they’ll be a bonus for anyone who grabs one of my Wattlesford Series storybooks (once the books are actually illustrated, I have to get on that!). The cards will give the young readers a peek at the real birds behind the cartoon characters in the books.
Without further ado, here are the Wattlesford cards that have been released so far. Come back each week for more!
Baxter
FULL NAME: Baxter Dwight Goose
AKA: Bax, Baxxer, Baxy, Baxter D Goose
BREED: Sebastopol
BIRTHDAY: April 19th, 2025
GENDER: Male
EGG COLOR: N/A
Baxter is our fluffy menace who loves his Mom (me) just a little bit too much – he is convinced that I’m his mate! He loves to torment everyone in Wattlesford and can often be found challenging one of the roosters to a duel.
Sam
FULL NAME: Samira Tallulah Goose
AKA: Sammy, Salmon, Sammy-Lou Goose
BREED: Sebastopol x Buff Toulouse
BIRTHDAY: April 30th, 2025
GENDER: Female
EGG COLOR: ???
Sam is a sweet, gentle (but not super snuggly) girl who NEVER stops talking. She has a major crush on both the dog and my husband, Gary. Every morning she starts her day by attempting to fly. She has not been successful (yet!).
Lucky
AKA: Luckers, Luck, Luck-a-roo
BREED: Marans Mix
BIRTHDAY: May 6, 2023
GENDER: Male
EGG COLOR: N/A
Lucky is a lover, not a fighter, and I think he truly believes his good looks and charm can get him through anything. He’s sweet and easygoing, the kind of rooster who would rather flirt than fuss. Just don’t mess with his hens – he’ll happily make an exception to his “no fighting” policy.
Renji
AKA: Renner, Ren, Renny
BREED: Beagle
BIRTHDAY: August 17, 2021
GENDER: Male
EGG COLOR: N/A
Renji is a noisy goof with a big bark and an even bigger sense of responsibility. He takes protecting his chickens extremely seriously, despite being a hunting breed and having absolutely no business acting like a farm security guard. He may be chaotic, but his heart is in the right place – and so are his loyalties.
Eleven
AKA: Levy, Lovey, Levy-Lover
BREED: Rhode Island Red x Barred Rock
(Black Sex Link)
BIRTHDAY: May 5, 2023
GENDER: Male
EGG COLOR: N/A
Levy takes his job very seriously. He builds nests for his girls, escorts them to lay, and at the first hint of danger he hustles everyone inside before planting himself between his hens and whatever dared breathe in their direction.
Once upon a time he was a snuggly little mama’s boy who would cry until he could nap in my lap. These days he’s far too important for that – though he still loves his Momma… unless I’m holding a drill. Then suddenly the drill becomes the enemy, and he charges in to defend us all from its suspicious whirring.
Hazel
AKA: Hazelnut, Hazey
BREED: Rhode Island Red x Barred Rock
(Black Sex Link)
BIRTHDAY: May 5, 2023
GENDER: Female
EGG COLOR: Medium brown with a purplish bloom.
Hazel is calm, steady, and wonderfully reliable. She’s one of our best layers, and even as she nears three years old, she’s still keeping pace with the young girls (of the same breed mix) who are in their prime.
Her eggs are a normal medium brown color but, every now and then, she will throw a heavy bloom on top and the egg will look purple.
She’s an easy keeper – no drama, no nonsense, just steady egg production and quiet loyalty. Every village needs a Hazel.
Marigold
AKA: Mary
BREED: Golden Laced Wyandotte
BIRTHDAY: May 5, 2023
GENDER: Female
EGG COLOR: Light pink
Marigold is our one and only Golden Laced Wyandotte, and she absolutely knows she’s special. She lays the prettiest light pink eggs with yolks so massive and golden they almost don’t look real – and if there’s one in the basket, I won’t even pretend I’m not choosing it for my breakfast.
She may look polished and regal, but don’t be fooled. This girl has a deep, grumbly voice that does not match her dainty lace pattern, and she uses it generously. Marigold has opinions about everything – the weather, the snacks, the general pace of the day – and she shares them loudly and often as she marches around the village.
Juniper
AKA: June
BREED: Black Copper Marans x Barred Rock
BIRTHDAY: May 5, 2023
GENDER: Female
EGG COLOR: Medium to dark brown with speckles
Juniper is calm where others are bold, quiet where others are chatty, and she’s rarely more than a few steps away from Marigold. The two of them move through the yard like a matched set and sleep snuggled together on their own little stretch of roost every night.
She’s also Lucky’s sister, though you wouldn’t necessarily guess it at first glance. They’re actually quite a bit alike personality wise – steady, observant, loyal to their friends, and perfectly content to avoid unnecessary drama. Juniper quietly goes about her business with her best friend at her side.
Theodore
AKA: Ted, Teddy, Tedder, Big Ted, Tedly T Rooster
BREED: Golden Laced Wyandotte
BIRTHDAY: May 5, 2023
GENDER: Male
EGG COLOR: N/A
Ted is goofy, sweet, and operating on about two brain cells – both of which are usually busy panicking about something. If anything in the yard is even slightly out of order, Ted immediately sounds the alarm with a dramatic yell we now lovingly refer to as “Tedding.” His crow doesn’t sound much like a rooster’s crow either – it’s closer to a startled pterodactyl scream echoing across Wattlesford.
Despite all the theatrics, Ted is an absolute sweetheart. He’ll take any opportunity he can get to hop up and sit on my lap like a very large feathered toddler.
Ted also seems to have a very particular talent when it comes to reproducing – he basically clones himself. Those Wyandotte genes are strong!
Ted was originally supposed to be the only rooster I kept from my first ever hatch… which, in hindsight, would have been a perfectly good decision. Instead, he ended up sharing the village with five other boys.
Ginger
AKA: Ginny, Gingey, Ginners
BREED: Columbian Rock x Mystery Red Rooster
BIRTHDAY: May 11, 2023
GENDER: Female
EGG COLOR: Cream/Peach
Ginger is quiet, calm, and very likely the one actually running Ted’s flock – though Ted hasn’t quite figured that out yet.
She’s every bit an alpha hen, but she leads in the kindest possible way. There’s no drama, no fuss – just a quiet confidence that somehow keeps everyone in line. Even Ted follows her lead, whether he realizes it or not.
Ginger came to us from my sister’s farm along with her sister, Shiro. She was originally given to my son as a Buff Orpington, but it was obvious the moment I saw her that she most definitely was not a Buff Orpington. As it turns out, her mom was a Columbian Rock and her dad was a mystery red rooster who apparently hopped the fence into the wrong pen.
Wattlesford loves a good scandal.
Noelan
AKA: Noel, Noely, AssNoel
BREED: Easter Egger
(Rhode Island Red x Ameraucana)
BIRTHDAY: May 5, 2023
GENDER: Male
EGG COLOR: N/A
Noel wakes up every morning choosing chaos – launching himself out of the coop like a feathered bodyguard on a mission. He’s quick, reactive, and deeply convinced that danger is always one step away. But underneath all that bravado is a soft, loyal boy who just loves his flock fiercely. He’ll still eat from your hand and let you scoop him up for a snuggle – just don’t mess with his girls. They are the most important thing in his life and he would do anything to protect them.
Nyx
AKA: Nyxie
BREED: Easter Egger
(Ameraucana x Barred Rock)
BIRTHDAY: June 21, 2023
GENDER: Female
EGG COLOR: Greenish Blue
Nyx is absolutely, unapologetically devoted to Noel and she makes sure everyone knows it. Rarely more than a step behind him, she lives her life as his shadow, his biggest fan, and his very obvious favorite.
Sweet but smug, Nyx carries herself with the quiet confidence of a hen who knows she’s the chosen one… and has no intention of letting her sisters forget it.
Artemis
AKA: Artie
BREED: Easter Egger
(Ameraucana x Barred Rock)
BIRTHDAY: June 21, 2023
GENDER: Female
EGG COLOR: Green
Artie doesn’t say much, but she means every look she gives – especially if you’re thinking about stepping out of line. Fiercely loyal to her softer sister Posie, she keeps the peace (and the pecking order) firmly in check.
Poseidon
AKA: Posie
BREED: Easter Egger
(Ameraucana x Barred Rock)
BIRTHDAY: June 21, 2023
GENDER: Female
EGG COLOR: Green
Posie made Wattlesford history as the first hen trusted with hatching eggs and she absolutely delivered – at first. After successfully raising Junior and Kleio for a few weeks, she politely resigned from motherhood mid-contract. She apparently prefers a simpler life of snacks, sunshine, and leaving the childcare to someone else.
Coming Next Week: Poppy and Nem!
Check back on April 1st, 2026 to see their cards.

About the Author
Hey! I’m Krystal - one of those quirky, super-introverted types in real danger of becoming a hermit. You know the kind. I usually leave the mountain once a week for provisions, load up on chicken feed, shavings, groceries, and whatever lumber I’ve convinced myself I need, then hurry back home where it’s quiet and a lot less people-y.
Turning our little property into a thriving homestead has become my passion (and maybe my obsession). If you happen to stop by, you’ll almost always find me outside doing something - building a new coop in the chicken village, tackling a half-finished project, tending the garden, doing chicken chores, or wrangling birds. On the rare chance you catch me indoors, I’m probably in the kitchen or knee-deep in sketches and plans for whatever I’ve decided to do next.
If you like what you see here, come hang out with me on Facebook and Instagram for more homestead stories, flock updates, and a good dose of cozy chaos.
Thanks for stopping by!
