A Gathering for Poultry People

Come Make Some New Friends!

The internet has made it pretty easy for poultry people to find each other, but it’s not nearly as easy to actually meet. I’m trying to fix that.

The Flock Party is a casual Sunday afternoon for local poultry keepers to get together, have a coffee, talk about their birds, and finally meet some of the people they’ve only ever interacted with online.

Chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, quail… if you’ve got poultry (or you want to), you’re welcome.

When: Sunday, September 27th from 12:30–4:30 PM
Where: South Alton, Nova Scotia

A FEW NOTES:
The venue’s civic address will be given with your registration confirmation.
Since biosecurity matters, even at a coffee-and-chat kind of event, please leave the barn boots and farm clothes at home.
Adults only, please (exceptions for babies in arms).

There won’t be a speaker. There won’t be a packed schedule of activities. There won’t be any pressure to work the room or introduce yourself to a room full of strangers. Just coffee, tea, snacks, comfortable places to sit, and lots of time to talk.

If you’re thinking, “This sounds fun, but I’m awkward around new people”, you’re definitely not the only one who feels this way. A lot of us who keep birds are rather introverted (myself included!). Most of us are probably actually more comfortable talking to chickens than strangers. If you want to come, please do. Don’t worry about being awkward, I’m sure I’ll have you beat in that respect.

I’ll have simple, fill-in-the-blank name tags at the door to help make those first conversations a little easier, and the room will have a mix of quieter corners and more social areas. Choose your spot based on your comfort level. There’s no expectation that you’ll mingle with every person in the room and I won’t put you on the spot and make you introduce yourself. Come have a coffee, chat if you’d like, and enjoy the company of fellow poultry keepers.

Admission is $10 per person to cover the costs of hosting the event and is payable by e-transfer to krystal@rootsroostandrafter.com. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required.

This isn’t a fundraiser or a money-making event. Your admission simply helps cover the cost of the venue, refreshments, and putting the event together.

That’s really it. No big production. No networking event. No sales pitch. Just a room full of poultry people. If a dozen people come and spend four hours drinking coffee and chatting about their birds, that’s a successful Flock Party.

I’d love to see you there!
